
Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Kabul, where they discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muttaqi described relations between the two countries as growing and called China an important trade partner for Afghanistan. He noted that annual trade between the two countries has reached around $1 billion, expressing hope that this figure would increase in the near future.
Muttaqi also reaffirmed that Afghanistan soil would never be used against neighboring countries. He presented practical proposals to strengthen economic cooperation in areas such as transport, banking ties, and trade balance while calling for closer work through intergovernmental commissions.
For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the relations as expanding, highlighting ongoing efforts by relevant institutions in both countries to boost Afghan exports to China. He added that Beijing seeks Afghanistan’s formal participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and emphasized cooperation in mineral exploration and extraction.
Wang Yi stated that China will begin practical mining operations this year and will continue to provide political and economic support to Afghanistan. He also pledged efforts to remove barriers to the export of Afghan agricultural and other products to China.
